Test G: Wipers Continue To Run When Switch Is Off

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Ensure wiper switch is off. Measure resistance between terminal No. 2 (Black/Pink wire) and terminal No. 6 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) at wiper motor connector. See Figure . Measure resistance between terminal No. 3 (Red wire) and terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Red wire) at wiper motor connector. If both resistance readings are 10 k/ohms or less, replace wiper motor and retest system. If any resistance readings are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Interval Wiper/Washer Module (IWWM) wiper connector. IWWM is located behind instrument panel, to left of steering column. Measure resistance of Red wire between IWWM connector and wiper motor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Red wire and retest system.
  3. Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between IWWM connector and wiper motor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Pink wire and retest system.
  4. Measure resistance between Orange wire and Brown/White wire at IWWM connector. If resistance is not 45-50 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 45-50 k/ohms, replace IWWM and retest system.
  5. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Measure resistance of Orange wire between IWWM connector and multifunction switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange wire and retest system.
  6. Measure resistance of Brown/White wire between IWWM connector and multifunction switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace multifunction switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire and retest system.
