Delayed Accessory Will Not Turn Off
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check For DTCs - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, perform SCIL (Steering Column Ignition and Lighting) control module self-test. If DTC B1566, U1198 or U1199 is not present, go to next step. If DTC B1566, U1198 or U1199 is present, check interior wiring. See wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Check Passenger Door PID - Using NGS tester, access SCIL control module P_DOOR PID. Open and close passenger door. If P_DOOR PID changes from CLOSED to AJAR when door is opened, go to next step. If P_DOOR PID does not change from CLOSED to AJAR when door is opened, check interior wiring. See wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Check Driver Door PID - Using NGS tester, access SCIL control module D_DR_DD PID. Open and close driver door. If D_DR_DD PID changes from CLOSED to AJAR when door is opened, go to next step. If D_DR_DD PID does not change from CLOSED to AJAR when door is opened, check interior wiring. See wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Check Accessory Delay Relay - Ensure both doors are closed. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove ignition key. DO NOT open doors. Wait 10 minutes and press left window switch in DOWN or UP position. If left window operates, go to next step. If left window does not operate, go to step 8).
- Check Black/Yellow Wire For Short To Ground - Disconnect delayed accessory relays No. 1 and 2. Measure resistance between ground and Black/Yellow wire at delayed accessory relay No. 2 connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 7).
- Check SCIL Control Module - Disconnect SCIL module 26-pin connector. Measure resistance between ground and Black/Yellow wire at delayed accessory relay No. 2 connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace SCIL control module. Retest system.
- Check Tan/Yellow Wire For Short To Voltage - Measure voltage between ground and Tan/Yellow wire at delayed accessory relay No. 2 connector. If battery voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Tan/Yellow wire. If battery voltage is not present, replace delayed accessory relay No. 2. Retest system.
- Check Sliding Roof Panel Operation - Close all doors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove ignition key. DO NOT open doors. Wait 10 minutes and press sliding roof panel switch to OPEN position. If sliding roof panel operates, go to next step. If sliding roof panel does not operate, system is operating properly.
- Check Red/Light Green Wire For Short To Voltage - Disconnect delayed accessory relay No. 1. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Light Green wire at delayed accessory relay No. 1 connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace delayed accessory relay No. 1. Retest system.
- Check Black/Pink Wire For Short To Voltage - Remove fuse No. 4 (10-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Light Green wire at delayed accessory relay No. 1 connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair short to voltage in Black/Pink wire. Retest system.
- Check White/Black Wire For Short To Voltage - Remove fuse No. 10 (30-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Light Green wire at delayed accessory relay No. 1 connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair short to voltage in White/Black wire. Retest system.
- Check Red/Light Blue Wire For Short To Voltage - Remove fuse No. 16 (20-amp) from instrument panel fuse block. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Light Green wire at delayed accessory relay No. 1 connector. If battery voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Red/Light Green wire. If battery voltage is not present, repair short to voltage in Red/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
