System is a 2-function electro/mechanical system which prevents free movement of the shift lever. An actuator on the ignition switch end of the interlock cable prevents ignition switch from being turned to LOCK position unless shift lever is in "P" position. Shift lever may not be moved from "P" position if the ignition key is in the RUN position unless the brake pedal is depressed.
A electronic shift lock actuator, mounted at the base of the shift lever, locks shift lever in "P" position until ignition switch is in RUN position and brake pedal is depressed.
