Drive Cycle Mode 1

NOTE: For aid in Mode 1 description, refer to illustration. See Fig 1.
  1. Ensure that there are no vacuum and/or intake air system leaks.
  2. Run the engine for 3 minutes or until the engine reaches operating temperature 176°F (80°C).
  3. Ensure that all accessories are off, including A/C.
  4. Ground the 10 pin in the data link connector (DLC).
  5. Ensure proper ignition timing and correct if needed.
  6. Check and adjust engine RPM if necessary.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  8. Disconnect the TEN pin ground in the DLC.
  9. Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
  10. Place the transmission in PARK (A/T) or NEUTRAL (M/T).
  11. Restart the engine.
  12. Increase the engine speed to 1750 RPM and hold it there for 15 seconds.
  13. Repeat step 10 for each of the following engine speeds: 2000 RPM, 2250 RPM, 3000 RPM, 3500 RPM, 4000 RPM, 4250 RPM, 4500 RPM, 4750 RPM, 5000 RPM.
  14. Release the throttle and let engine idle for approximately 30 seconds.
    NOTE: If the cooling fan engages during the idle portion of this test, continue idling for 30 seconds after the cooling fan disengages.
  15. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  16. Monitor the MODE 1 PID to verify successful Mode 1 completion. If Mode 1 cannot be completed despite accurately following the procedure, go to CIRCUIT TEST QC - OBD-II MONITOR TESTING NOT COMPLETE  to diagnose cause of Mode 1 failure.
  17. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
