Delayed Accessory Relay Coil Open

  1. Check Window Operation

Check operation of power windows. If power windows do not operate, go to next step. If power windows operate, go to step 5).
  2. Check Signal From GEM

Turn ignition off. Remove accessory delay relay (located in fuse junction panel). Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, enter active command menu. Select ACCY RLY, and trigger relay on. Using a ohmmeter connected to ground, measure resistance between delay relay socket terminal No. 85 and ground. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 4). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step.

  3. Check For Open In Fuse Panel

Disconnect fuse junction panel connector C1 from GEM. See Fig 2. Measure resistance between delay relay terminal No. 85 and fuse junction panel connector C1, terminal No. 17. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 5).
  4. Check For Open Circuit

Remove battery saver relay from fuse junction panel connector. Measure resistance between battery saver relay socket terminal No. 3 and delay relay socket terminal No. 86. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace accessory delay relay. If resistance is greater 5 ohms, replace fuse junction panel.
  5. Check For Short In Fuse Panel

Disconnect GEM from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between delay relay socket terminal No. 86 and fuse junction panel connector C1, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace fuse junction panel.
  6. Check For Short In Relay

Turn ignition off. Open driver's door. Remove accessory delay relay from fuse junction panel. Measure resistance between ground and delay relay socket terminal No. 85. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace accessory delay relay.
  7. Check For Short In GEM

Disconnect fuse panel connector C1. See Fig 2. Measure resistance between ground and delay relay socket terminal No. 85. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, replace fuse junction panel. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM.
