Illuminated Entry Doesn't Work From Remote Transmitter

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Unplug connectors C400 and C402 from Remote Keyless Entry Module (RKEM). See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and RKEM connector C402, terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire), and RKEM connector C400, terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 15 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair wire in question and retest system..
  2. Unplug RKEM connector C401. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C401, terminals No. 13, 14, and 25 (all Black/White wires). Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C402, terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is at least 9 volts at all terminals, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 9 volts at any terminal, repair wire in question and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAM .
  3. Measure resistance between output side of fuse No. 8 (Light Green/Yellow wire) and RKEM connector C401, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Yellow wire in question and retest system.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C401, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires). If voltage is at least 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 10 volts, repair short in Light Green/Yellow wire and retest system.
  5. Reconnect RKEM connector C401. Backprobe RKEM connector C401, terminals No. 11 and 12 (both Light Green/Orange wires). If voltage is at least 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 10 volts, replace RKEM and retest system.
  6. Turn ignition on. Test for battery voltage between ground and RKEM connector C402, terminal No. 6 (White/Purple wire). Battery voltage should exist. Turn ignition off. Battery voltage should not exist. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open circuit or short to voltage on White/Pink wire and retest system.
  7. Disconnect RKEM connectors C400, C401 and C402. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C400, terminal No. 17 (Gray wire) while rotating panel light dimmer control to ON position. If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Gray wire to courtesy light circuit and retest system.
  8. Rotate panel light dimmer control to OFF position. Measure resistance between RKEM connector C401, terminal No. 10 (Light Green/Yellow wire) and mating terminal on RKEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair shorted headlight switch and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  9. Rotate panel light dimmer control to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and RKEM connector C400, terminals No. 7 and 19 (both Black/Light Blue wires). If voltage is at least 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not at least 10 volts, replace RKEM and retest system.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and RKEM connector C400, terminal No. 17 (Gray wire) when each door handle is lifted, and when each handle is released. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less when either handle is lifted and 10 k/ohms when handle is released. If resistance is resistance is as specified, go to step 13). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or more when one or both handles are lifted, go to step 12). If resistance is 5 ohms or less when one or both handles are lifted, go to next step.
  11. Rotate panel light dimmer control to OFF position. Unplug RKEM connector C400. Check for continuity between RKEM connector C400, terminal No. 7 (Black/Light Blue wire) and mating terminal on RKEM with each door open while the other is closed. If continuity exists with each door open while the other is closed, go to next step. If continuity is not as described, repair defective wiring or replace defective door switch.
  12. Momentarily connect jumper wire between RKEM connector C401, terminals No. 10 and 23 (both Light Green/Yellow wires) and RKEM connector C400, terminals No 7 and 19 (both Black/Light Blue wires). If interior lights come on, go to next step. If lights do not come on, repair open or short circuit in Light Green/Yellow or Black/Light Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAM .
  13. Inspect harness and RKEM connectors for loose, missing, or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary. If all connections are okay, temporarily substitute known-good RKEM, then retest system.
