Test D: Restraint Control Module (RCM) & Abs Module Do Not Respond To NGS Tester (Result Code 70=00000001)

NOTE: Depending on module configuration, with all modules connected and with ignition switch in RUN position or with engine running 2-3 volts may be present at Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 7 (White wire). This is the International Standards Organization (ISO) 9141 diagnostic communications network circuit.
  1. Disarm air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Disconnect in-line harness connector C62. Measure resistance between terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) at in-line harness connector C62 and terminal No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in White or White/Red wire.
  2. Connect in-line harness connector C62. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 16 (Orange wire) and No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If approximately 1.5 volts do not exist, go to next step. If approximately 1.5 volts exists, go to step  6 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect in-line harness connector C62. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 16 (Orange wire) and No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If approximately 1.5 volts exists, go to next step. If approximately 1.5 volts do not exist, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RCM harness connector C20. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) at in-line harness connector C62. If voltage is indicated, repair short to voltage in White/Red wire. If voltage is not indicated, replace RCM.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ABS module harness connector C3002. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If voltage is indicated, repair short to voltage in White wire. If voltage is not indicated, replace ABS module.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, perform data link diagnostic procedure. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  7. Disconnect in-line harness connector C62. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If resistance is greater than 100 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or less, go to step  9 .
  8. Disconnect RCM harness connector C20. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire) at in-line harness connector C62. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace RCM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire.
  9. Disconnect ABS module harness connector C3002. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 7 (White wire) at DLC. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace ABS module. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White, White/Violet or White/Red wire.
