Test D

  1. Observe all instrument cluster warning indicators as ignition switch is turned from OFF to RUN position. If other warning indicators illuminate, (even temporarily), go to next step. If no other indicators illuminate, diagnose instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. With ignition on, engine off, measure voltage between generator 3-pin connector terminal "I" (Light Green/Red wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check system operation.
  3. Connect jumper wire between generator 3-pin connector terminal "I" (Light Green/Red wire) and ground while observing charge warning indicator. If indicator illuminates, remove jumper and go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, check indicator bulb and replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, repair high resistance in bulb socket or Light Green/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check system operation.
  4. Inspect ground connections between battery and engine. Ensure generator mounting surfaces are clean and bolts are secure. On 3.0L 2-valve engines, also ensure voltage regulator mounting surfaces are clean and screws are secure. On all models, if any grounds or mounting surfaces are not okay, repair as necessary and check system operation. If grounds and mounting are okay, replace generator and check system operation. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check system operation.
