Alternative Fuel Control Module (AFCM)

NOTE: The AFCM is incorporated internally of the compuvalve on F-Series and bi-fuel system control is identical to Contour.

AFCM allows communication between compuvalve and PCM. On Contour, the AFCM is located under the front of center console. On all models, AFCM communicates desired ALT or GAS operating mode to PCM. AFCM shares information between PCM and compuvalve and assists in troubleshooting the bi-fuel system. If operating conditions are satisfactory and ALT/GAS switch on dash is in ALT mode position, the compuvalve will signal PCM to turn gasoline fuel injectors off. If operating vehicle in ALT mode and CNG fuel source drops below a specified amount, compuvalve will signal PCM through the AFCM to turn gasoline fuel injectors on. When this occurs, compuvalve will shut off CNG fuel supply, allowing CNG and gasoline fuel systems to switch smoothly.
