Poor Vehicle Tracking During Abs Operation

  1. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . If vehicle tracks poorly, go to next step. If vehicle does not track poorly, brake system is operating properly.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. With transmission in neutral, ensure all wheels rotate freely. Apply moderate brake effort. Turn ignition on. Install New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command LF INLET ON. Have an assistant attempt to rotate left front wheel. If left front wheel does not rotate, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Repeat self-test. If left front wheel rotates, go to next step.
  3. Apply moderate brake effort. Attempt to rotate left front wheel. If wheel rotates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Repeat self-test. If wheel does not rotate, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command LF INLET ON. Trigger active command ABS POWER ON for 6 seconds. Pump/motor will only run for 2 seconds, therefore, ABS POWER ON will need to be commanded on three times. Trigger active command LF OUTLET ON and OFF three times. Have an assistant attempt to rotate left front wheel. If left front wheel rotates, trigger active commands OFF. Go to next step. If right front wheel does not rotate, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
  5. Apply moderate brake effort. Attempt to rotate left front wheel. If wheel rotates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Repeat self-test. If wheel does not rotate, left front is okay. Repeat steps 1)  through 5)  on all other wheels, using appropriate active commands for each wheel. If no wheel failures occur, ABS system is operating normally.
