Test D: Charge Warning Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Connect jumper wire between generator 3-pin connector terminal (Green/Black wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position and observe charge warning indicator. If indicator illuminates, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between generator case and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, clean and repair ground connections or generator mounting as necessary. Retest system operation.
- On 2.5L, disconnect generator 1-pin connector (Gray wire). Measure voltage between generator terminal and ground. On 2.0L, disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Measure voltage between middle generator terminal (no wire in corresponding connector terminal) and ground. See Figure . On all models, if voltage is greater than one volt, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If voltage is one volt or less, replace voltage regulator. See VOLTAGE REGULATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin connector. Measure resistance of Green/Black wire between generator 3-pin connector and instrument cluster 16-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Green/Black wire and retest system operation.
