Removal & Installation (Continental, Taurus & Sable)
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain fuel from tank. Raise and support vehicle. Remove fuel tank filler and recirculation hoses. Disconnect fuel pump module electrical connector. Remove fuel filter supply line. On Continental, remove 2 vapor tube fittings at right rear and right front of fuel tank. On Taurus and Sable, remove vapor tube fitting at fuel tank.
- On all models, position a support under fuel tank. Remove 2 fuel tank support strap bolts and move fuel tank support straps away from fuel tank. Carefully lower fuel tank. Remove any dirt from around fuel pump module flange area. Using Fuel Tank Retainer Ring Wrench (D90P-9275-A), remove fuel pump module retainer ring. Remove fuel pump module and discard fuel pump module mounting gasket.
- Clean fuel pump module mounting flange, fuel tank mounting surface and gasket surface. Install NEW gasket on fuel pump module mounting flange. Install fuel pump module into fuel tank. On Taurus and Sable, ensure stop is felt when aligning raised arrow on top of fuel pump module with dot on fuel tank. On all models, install fuel pump module retainer ring and tighten against stops. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill fuel tank and check for leaks.
