Principles of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2005 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The instrument cluster illuminates the interior lamps when an unlock signal is received from the vehicle security module. The illuminated entry feature will be canceled when any of the following conditions are met:

The instrument cluster illuminates the interior lamps when any door is open or ajar. The interior lamps shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active or when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph). The interior lamps are not reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 km/h (3 mph) and a new door open warning lamp signal is received.

The instrument cluster controls the interior lamps illuminated entry.

The panel dimmer switch is integrated into the headlamp switch and controls the interior lamps by activating the instrument cluster through circuit 1034 (BK/WH).

The vehicle security module sends a signal to the instrument cluster on the UBP network circuit to indicate a request to turn the illuminated entry feature on or off.

The on-demand lamps, glove compartment assembly, homelink module, approach lamps and illuminated vanity mirrors are controlled by the battery saver relay. The battery saver relay becomes active (relay coil is energized) when the instrument cluster is in the awake mode. In the sleep mode, the relay coil is de-energized.
