Cylinder Head: Assembly

- Use a plastic scraper and metal surface cleaner to clean the cylinder head.
- Lubricate the camshaft journals with clean engine oil.
- Install the camshaft and the camshaft bearing caps.
- Lubricate with clean engine oil and position the camshaft bearing caps.
- Install the bolts loosely.
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Install the valves in the valve guides located in the cylinder head.
- Use the special tool to install the valve stem seals.
- Install the valve springs and the valve spring retainers onto the valves.
- Install the special tool between the valve spring coils to prevent valve stem seal damage.
- Use the special tool to compress the valve springs, and install the valve spring retainer keys.
- Install the hydraulic lash adjusters in their original locations.
- Using the special tool, install the roller followers in their original locations.
- Remove the special tool.
NOTE:
Do not use metal scrapers or other tools to clean the cylinder head.
