Valve Springs: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the camshaft roller followers. For additional information, refer to CAMSHAFT ROLLER FOLLOWER .
- Position the piston at the top of the stroke.
- Remove the spark plugs. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION .
- Install compressed air in the cylinder to hold both valves in position.
- Use the special tool to compress the valve springs.
- Remove the valve spring retainer keys, the valve spring retainers and the valve spring.
WARNING:
If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM

CAUTION:
If air pressure has forced the piston to the bottom of the cylinder, any loss of air pressure will allow the valve to fall into the cylinder. If air pressure must be removed, support the valve prior to removal.
