Inspection and Verification: Notes

NOTE: If any concerns are noted with the speedometer, stoplamps or horn, address those concerns by referring to their associated sections before continuing the speed control diagnosis.
  1. Verify the concern.
  2. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Speed control cable
    • Speed control cable connections
    • Speed control actuator pulley cover
    • Speed control actuator
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse(s):
      • 6 (15A) (stoplamp switch)
      • 27 (5A) (speed control actuator)
      • 34 (5A) (speed control switches)
    • Speed control switches
    • Stoplamp switch
    • Speed control deactivator switch
    • Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transaxle)
    • Digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transaxle)
    • Circuitry
  3. Make sure the throttle linkage operates freely and smoothly when connected to the speed control cable and speed control actuator.
  4. Verify that the speedometer, the anti-lock brake system (ABS), the audio unit and the stoplamps function correctly.
  5. Verify that the speed control cable and the accelerator cable are attached, adjusted correctly, and not holding the throttle open or increasing the idle speed. Inspect the speed control and throttle cable routing. Make sure that nothing is interfering with the function of the cables.
  6. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, poor connections, or damage.
  7. If the fault is not visually evident, verify the symptom. Go to Symptom Chart .
