Warning Devices
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The warning device system consists of the following components:
- Generic Electronic Module (GEM)
- safety belt warning indicator switch, which is an integral part of the driver safety belt retractor pretensioner
- key-in-ignition warning switch
- door ajar switch(es)
There are five warning chimes and lamps the GEM controls: headlamps operating without the ignition on (chime only), door ajar (chime and lamp), key-in-ignition (chime only), driver safety belt warning (chime and lamp), and belt minder (chime and lamp).
NOTE:
The GEM is diagnosed through the Data Link Connector (DLC) with a diagnostic tool.
For removal and installation information of the GEM, REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . For removal and installation information of the door ajar switch(es), refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS .
