Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The Advance Trac®/IVD lamp will flash when a system calibration is required. Calibration is required after certain DTCs are cleared.

  1. R1 - CHECK FOR DTCs

    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Retrieve DTCs.
    • Is any other DTC retrieved with C1998?
      1. Yes  : GO to the appropriate pinpoint test for the DTC.

Some of the pinpoint tests recommend IVD calibration prior to any further diagnostics, in this case, GO to R2.

      2. No  : GO to R2.
  2. R2 - IVD CALIBRATION

    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key on, engine running.
    • NOTE: Be sure to rotate the steering wheel lock-to-lock during the calibration of the ABS system.
    • Carry out IVD calibration per the diagnostic tool instructions.
    • Did calibration complete for all IVD sensors? And did the Advance Trac®/IVD lamp stop flashing and go off?
      1. Yes  : GO to R3.
      2. No  : GO to  R1.

Some concerns will cause a calibration not complete. If sent here from another pinpoint test, return to that pinpoint test for further diagnostics.

  3. NOTE: You must clear DTC C1998 after the completion of the calibration.

  4. R3 - CLEAR DTC C1998
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Clear the DTC.
    • Did the DTC clear?
      1. Yes  : TEST DRIVE the vehicle. REPEAT the self-test.

If sent here from another pinpoint test, return to that pinpoint test for further diagnostics.

      2. No  : GO to  R1.
