Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Prior to removal of the smart junction box (SJB), it is necessary to upload module configuration information to the diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
  1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the RH lower cowl trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    1. Unlatch and disconnect the main electrical connectors.
    2. Separate the electrical connectors from the SJB.

  4. Remove the SJB.
    • Remove the SJB screws.

  5. CAUTION: Once the new module is installed, it is necessary to download the module configuration information from the diagnostic tool into the new module. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
