Removal (Mustang)

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain fuel from tank. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove bolt retaining fuel filler pipe to fuel tank and disconnect inlet and return hose connections to fuel tank.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel pump module. Disconnect vapor tube fitting at left front of fuel tank. Disconnect EVAP canister tube and hose. Support fuel tank. Remove front 2 fuel tank support straps and position aside. Partially lower fuel tank and disconnect fuel line. Outer edge of pipe-to-tank filler grommet must be carefully cut away or damage to filler pipe check valve may occur.
  3. Carefully remove filler pipe grommet from fuel tank and discard. Lower and remove fuel tank. Remove any dirt from around fuel pump module flange area. Remove 6 fuel pump module bolts. Pull fuel pump module assembly up and out of fuel tank until fuel pump module locking tabs are accessible. Squeeze locking tabs together and remove fuel pump module from fuel tank, lifting straight up and out.
