Test H: Invalid Key Code Format From Encoded Ignition Key Transponder

NOTE: After any repairs, perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - EXCURSION & F250/F350 SUPER DUTY article.
CAUTION: Ensure Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) encoded ignition key is an approved Ford encoded ignition key. Unapproved PATS ignition keys do not always operate properly over different temperature ranges.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using scan tool, retrieve and record all DTCs. Clear PATS DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B1602 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1602 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. Ensure all encoded ignition keys are programmed. See KEY PROGRAMMING - WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Cut a new encoded ignition key. Turn ignition to run position. Program new encoded ignition key. See KEY PROGRAMMING - WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING. Using scan tool, perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B1602 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1602 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. Program any remaining encoded ignition keys. Perform KEY PROGRAMMING - WITH PROGRAMMED KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Replace PATS transceiver. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) TRANSCEIVER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If no PATS DTCs are retrieved, PATS is okay. If any PATS DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test(s).
