Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    All vehicles 

  1. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO  or FRONT BUMPER COVER - FREESTYLE .
  2. Freestyle 

  3. If equipped, remove the rivets and position the block heater electrical adapter aside.
    • When installing the block heater electrical adapter, the special tool must be used to install the new rivets.

  4. All vehicles 

    NOTE: There are 2 tack welds on each side of the front bumper. These welds must be drilled out to remove the beam.
  5. If equipped, drill out the 2 tack welds on each side of the front bumper.
  6. Remove the front bumper bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
  7. Remove the front bumper.
  8. NOTE: Tack welds retaining the front bumper to the body rails are not required for installation. Install new front bumper bolts.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
