Poor Vehicle Tracking During Abs Operation
- Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . Ensure vehicle is not on a hoist. If vehicle tracks poorly, go to next step. If vehicle does not track poorly, brake system is operating properly.
- Turn ignition on. Install New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Place gear selector in Neutral. Raise and support vehicle. Rotate all wheels to ensure wheels rotate freely. Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command PMP MOTOR on for 4 seconds. Pump/motor will only run for 2 seconds; therefore, PMP MOTOR will need to be commanded on twice. Apply moderate pressure to brake pedal. Have an assistant attempt to rotate left front wheel. If left front wheel rotates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). If left front wheel does not rotate, go to next step.
- Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command LF INLET and LF OUTLET on. Immediately after commanding LF INLET and LF OUTLET on, have an assistant rotate left front wheel. NGS tester will only energize valves for 2 seconds. If left front wheel rotates, go to step 4 ). If left front wheel does not rotate, go to step 8) .
- Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command PMP MOTOR ON for 4 seconds. Pump/motor will only run for 2 seconds; therefore, PMP MOTOR ON will need to be commanded on twice. Apply moderate pressure to brake pedal. Have an assistant attempt to rotate right front wheel. If right front wheel rotates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). If right front wheel does not rotate, go to next step.
- Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command RF INLET and RF OUTLET on. Immediately after commanding RF INLET and RF OUTLET on, have an assistant rotate right front wheel. NGS tester will only energize valves for 2 seconds. If right front wheel does not rotate, go to step 8) . If right front wheel rotates, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command PMP MOTOR on for 4 seconds. Pump/motor will only run for 2 seconds; therefore, PMP MOTOR will need to be commanded on twice. Apply moderate pressure to brake pedal. Have an assistant attempt to rotate rear wheels. If rear wheels rotate, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). If rear wheels do not rotate, go to next step.
- Using NGS tester, select ABS control module and command R INLET and R OUTLET on. Immediately after commanding R INLET and R OUTLET on, have an assistant rotate rear wheels. NGS tester will only energize valves for 2 seconds. If rear wheels rotate, system is operating normally. If rear wheels do not rotate, go to next step.
- Using NGS tester, retrieve ABS DTCs. If any DTCs are set, perform appropriate test for DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table. If no DTCs are set, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU).
