Test G: Locks Inoperative From Keypad

  1. Lock and unlock all doors using driver door lock control switch. If all doors lock and unlock, go to next step. If all doors do not lock and unlock, go to TEST A: ALL DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE USING DOOR LOCK SWITCHES  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to data link connector following manufacturers instructions. Read and record GEM PID key code. If code matches code on factory sticker (on owner's wallet card and on GEM) , go to next step. If code does not match code on factory sticker, check operation of factory code. If code is okay, notify customer of code. If code is not okay, go to  4 .
  3. Using NGS tester, perform GEM self-test. If DTC B1526 exists, go to step  5 . If DTC B1623 exists, go to step  9 . If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
  4. Monitor GEM PID KEY_PAD. Press each keypad button while monitoring PID display. If GEM PID values agree with keypad switch positions, go to step  10 . If GEM PID values do not agree with keypad switch positions, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin connector C201c. Measure resistance between ground and GEM connector C201c terminals No. 8 (Yellow wire), 9 (Light Green/Red wire), 10 (Light Blue Yellow wire), 22 (Yellow/Black wire) and 23 (Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms at each terminal, go to step  7 . If resistance is 10 k/ohm or less at any terminal, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect keyless entry keypad 8-pin connector C500. Measure resistance between ground and GEM connector C210c terminals No. 8 (Yellow wire), 9 (Light Green/Red wire), 10 (Light Blue Yellow wire), 22 (Yellow/Black wire) and 23 (Red wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms at each terminal, replace keyless entry keypad. Recheck system operation. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. Recheck system operation.

  7. Measure resistance between ground and GEM connector C201c terminals as specified while pressing each keypad button associated with terminal. See GEM CONNECTOR C201c CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms at each terminal with each associated button pressed, go to step  10 . If resistance is 5 ohms or more at any terminal with each associated button pressed, go to next step.
    GEM CONNECTOR C201c CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION(1)

Connector C201c Terminal No. Wire Color Keypad Button No.
    8 Yellow 7/8
    9 Light Green/Red 3/4
    10 Light Blue/Yellow 1/2
    22 Yellow/Black 5/6
    23 Red 9/0
    (1) Measure resistance between ground and GEM connector C201c terminals as specified while pressing each keypad button associated with terminal.
  8. Measure resistance of each wire between GEM connector C201c and keyless entry keypad connector C500 as specified. See KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD CIRCUIT CHECK  table. See Figure and Fig 1 . If each resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace keyless entry keypad. Recheck system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater in any wire, repair open in appropriate wire. Recheck system operation.
    KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD CIRCUIT CHECK(1)

GEM Connector C201c Terminal No. Wire Color Keypad Connector C500 Terminal No.
    8 Yellow 6
    9 Light Green/Yellow 4
    10 Light Blue/Yellow 3
    22 Yellow/Black 5
    23 Red 1
    (1) Measure resistance of each wire between GEM connector C201c and keyless entry keypad connector C500 as specified.
  9. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin connector C201c. Disconnect keyless entry keypad connector C500. Measure voltage between ground and GEM connector C201c terminal No. 13 (Light Blue wire). See Figure . If any voltage exists, repair short to power. Recheck system operation. If no voltage exists, go to next step.
  10. Disconnect all GEM connectors. Check for corroded, damaged or pushed out pins. Repair as necessary. Reconnect GEM connectors. Ensure connectors seat correctly. Recheck system operation. If fault still exists, replace GEM. Recheck system operation. If fault no longer exists, fault may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
