Activating System

CAUTION: Make sure horn wiring is routed out between air bag backing plate and steering wheel. Failure to do so may result in the air bag not deploying correctly.
  1. Ensure both battery cables are disconnected. Wait one minute. Remove air bag simulators from side air bags (if equipped) and reconnect electrical connectors. Remove air bag simulators from driver-side air bag and passenger-side air bag wiring harness electrical connector.
  2. Reconnect clockspring electrical connector at base of steering column. Install air bag module. Install lower instrument panel steering column cover. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Reconnect passenger-side air bag electrical connector to air bag module. Install passenger-side air bag module. Tighten passenger air bag retaining bolts to specification. SeeTORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect positive battery cable, then connect negative battery cable. Check AIR BAG light for system faults.
