Heated Rear Window Grid

  1. Using a bright light in vehicle, inspect wire grid from exterior. A broken grid wire will appear as a Brown spot. Run engine at idle. Set heated rear window switch in ON position, indicator should illuminate. Working inside vehicle with voltmeter, contact broad Red-Brown stripes of rear glass window positive lead to battery side and negative lead to ground side. Meter should read 10-13 volts. A lower reading indicates a loose ground connection.
  2. Contact a good ground point with negative lead of meter. Voltage reading should remain the same. With negative lead of meter grounded, touch each grid line of heated rear window glass at its midpoint with positive lead. A reading of approximately 6 volts indicates that line is okay. A reading of zero volts indicates that line is broken between midpoint and positive side of grid line. A reading of 12 volts indicates that circuit is broken between midpoint of grid line and ground.
