Test J: Rear Window Defroster Will Not Shut Off Automatically

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Rear Electronic Module (REM) and instrument cluster self-tests. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  and/or INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Remove heated rear window relay. Test relay. See ISO RELAY TEST  under COMPONENT TESTS. If heated rear window relay is okay, go to next step. If heated rear window relay is not okay, replace relay.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between heated rear window relay harness connector terminal No. 87 (Brown/Light Blue wire) and ground. If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Brown/Light Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Disconnect REM 22-pin harness connector C341. Measure resistance between REM harness connector C341 terminal No. 7 (White wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace REM. See REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
