Test P: Abs Warning Indicator Shorted

NOTE: DTC C1220 is generated when ABCM detects battery voltage to ABS warning indicator when ABS indicator should be on. Possible conditions include a burnt out ABS warning light bulb, shorted circuit or defective ABS light driver in ABCM.
  1. Connect NGS tester or scan tool. Turn ignition off, then turn ignition on while watching ABS warning light. If ABS warning indicator illuminated for about 2 seconds and then goes out, go to next step. If ABS indicator did not come on, or did not go out after 2 seconds, go to step  3 .
  2. Check for any DTCs. If DTC C1220 is retrieved, replace ABCM and go to step  5 . If DTC is not retrieved, go to step  5 .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument panel connector C252. Connect Breakout Box. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between pins No. 33 and 60. If voltage is present, repair Yellow/Red wire, then go to step  6 . If no voltage is present, connect instrument panel connector and go to next step.
  4. Using a jumper wire, connect Breakout Box pins No. 60 (ground) and 33. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds, then turn ignition off. If ABS warning light illuminates brightly, replace ABCM, then go to step  6 . If ABS warning illuminates dimly, repair Yellow/Red wire between ABCM and instrument panel connector, and go to step  6 . If ABS indicator light did not illuminate, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  5. Turn ignition off. Connect Breakout Box. Remove (10-amp) METER fuse. Measure voltage between Breakout Box pins No. 60 and 33. While monitoring DVOM reading, wiggle end points of wiring harness. Continue to wiggle harness working toward middle of harness. If voltage is detected, repair Yellow/Red wire circuit, then go to next step. If voltage is not detected, go to next step.
  6. Restore ABS system and connect all components. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform DRIVE CYCLE TEST  . Retrieve and document continuous DTCs. If SYSTEM PASS is obtained, repair is complete. If SYSTEM PASS is not obtained and original DTC is retrieved, go back to step  1 . If different DTCs are retrieved, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
