Compass Calibration
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Start the vehicle.
- Locate the electronic compass/temperature display on the overhead console, press and hold the SELECT button until CAL appears in the display, then release the SELECT button.
- Drive the vehicle slowly (less than 5 km/h [3 mph]) in complete circles until CAL disappears from the display.
- If the CAL message does not turn off within 5 circles (and the procedure has been repeated at least once and the vehicle has been demagnetized), install a new overhead console. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE article.
NOTE:
For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential electrical accessories (heated rear window, heater fan, A/C, map lamps, wipers, etc.) and make sure all doors are closed.
NOTE:
While holding the SELECT button down, the compass display will first enter the ZONE setting mode (after 5 seconds) and then after another 5 seconds (10 seconds total), the compass display will enter the CAL mode.
NOTE:
If the CAL indicator does not turn off after the vehicle is driven in a circle at least 5 times, repeat the procedure.
NOTE:
If the CAL indicator does not turn off after the vehicle is driven in a circle no more than 5 times (and the procedure has been repeated at least once), demagnetize the vehicle and repeat the procedure. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Demagnetizing .
