Description & Operation

There are 2 types of Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) systems used on U.S. built vehicles, a driver door only entry system and a full 4-door remote system with anti-theft consisting of left and right front power door lock switches, door latch actuators, power door lock relay, RAP module, trunk release solenoid, and remote transmitter(s). Remote keyless entry system on Mexico built vehicles use an anti-theft system only. Up to 4 transmitters can be programmed to any system. The remote keyless entry feature will not function when the ignition switch is in ACC or ON position.

U.S. built models with a driver's door only entry system using a 4-button remote transmitter, which allows driver to lock/unlock driver door only, activate/deactivate panic alarm and open the trunk lid. U.S. model with full 4-door remote keyless entry system uses a 4-button remote transmitter, which allows driver to lock/unlock driver door only, lock/unlock all doors, release the trunk latch, illuminates interior lights, activates/deactivates panic alarm and controls anti-theft features if equipped.

When UNLOCK button is pressed, driver door will unlock and interior lights will illuminate. If LOCK button is pressed again within 5 seconds, all doors will unlock (4-door systems only). When LOCK button is pressed, door(s) will lock. If LOCK button is pressed again within 5 seconds, door(s) will lock again, horn will chirp and lights will flash to confirm locking. If a door is ajar, horn will chirp twice. If TRUNK button is pressed, trunk lid will open. When PANIC button is pressed, interior lights will illuminate, horn will sound repeatedly and lights will flash. Panic feature can be disabled by pressing PANIC button a second time or by turning ignition switch to ON position.

Mexico built vehicles uses a keyless entry/anti-theft system is controlled through the RAP module which uses a 3 button keyless entry remote transmitter. When LOCK button is pressed once, interior lights will turn off and anti-theft will arm. If button is pressed a second time within 5 seconds, horn will sound once to verify all doors are closed and system is armed, horn will sound twice if a door is open. When UNLOCK button is pressed, illuminated entry is turned on and anti-theft system is disarmed. When PANIC button is pressed, illuminated entry is turned on, horn sounds and parking lights flash. If perimeter alarm has been triggered, pressing PANIC button will disarm anti-theft system. Pressing PANIC button a second time will turn off panic alarm if set by remote transmitter or perimeter alarm has been triggered.
