Test N: Open Or Shorted Dump Valve Solenoid
NOTE:
DTCS C1194/C1196, C1201/C1212, C1242/C1244 or C1246/C1248 are generated when ABCM detects an incorrect feedback voltage for any dump valve solenoid when feedback voltage should be high (battery voltage) or solenoid should be energized. Possible contributing conditions may be open or short dump valve solenoid, shorted circuit between dump valve solenoid and ABCM or a defective ABCM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect NGS tester or scan tool. Turn ignition on. Clear continuous DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES . Perform DRIVE CYCLE TEST . Retrieve and document continuous DTCs. Turn ignition off. If DTCs C1194, C1210, C1242 or C1246 are retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs C1196, C1212, C1244 or C1248 are retrieved, go to step 6 . If a different DTC is retrieved, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table. If no DTC is retrieved and SYSTEM PASS is obtained, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Connect Breakout Box. Measure resistance between Breakout Box pin No. 30 and pin No. 31 (DTC C1194), No. 50 (DTC C1210), No. 15 (DTC C1242) or No. 4 (DTC C1246). If resistance is 1-3 ohms, go to step 5 . If resistance is not 1-3 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect HCU connector. Measure resistance between HCU terminals No. 9 and 3 (DTC C1198), No. 6 and 4 (DTC C1214), No. 11 and 5 (DTC C1250) or No. 10 and 12 (DTC C1254). See Figure . If resistance is 1-3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1-3 ohms, replace HCU coil assembly, then go to step 8 .
- Measure resistance between appropriate Breakout Box (BOB) pin and HCU harness connector terminal: BOB No. 31 and HCU No.9 (DTC C1194), BOB No.50 and HCU No. 6 (DTC C1210), BOB No. 15 and HCU No. 11 (DTC C1242), or BOB No. 4 and HCU No. 10 (DTC C1246). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ABCM, then go to step 8 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair appropriate wire circuit(s), then go to step 8 .
- Disconnect HCU connector. Measure resistance between Breakout Box pin No. 60 and pin No. 31 (DTC C1194), No. 50 (DTC C1210), No. 15 (DTC C1242), or No. 4 (DTC C1246). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ABCM, then go to step 8 . If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair appropriate wire circuit(s), then go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Connect Breakout Box. Measure resistance between Breakout Box pin No. 30 and pin No. 31 (DTC C1196), No. 50 (DTC C1212), No. 15 (DTC C1244), or No. 4 (DTC C1248). If resistance is 1-3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1-3 ohms, replace HCU coil assembly, then go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Breakout Box pin No. 60 and pin No. 31 (DTC C1196), No. 50 (DTC C1212), No. 15 (DTC C1244), or No. 4 (DTC C1248). If voltage is greater than Zero volts, repair appropriate wire circuit(s), then go to next step. If voltage was Zero volts, replace ABCM and go to next step.
- Restore ABS system and connect all components. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform DRIVE CYCLE TEST . Retrieve and document continuous DTCs. If SYSTEM PASS is obtained, repair is complete. If SYSTEM PASS is not obtained, and original DTC is retrieved, go back to step 1 . If a different DTC is retrieved, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table.
