SYMPTOM CHART

Condition	Possible Sources	Action
The engine cranks slowly	Battery. Ignition switch. Starter motor. Circuitry.	CARRY OUT the Starter Motor - Motor Feed Circuit test and/or the Starter Motor - Ground Circuit test. REFER to COMPONENT TESTS in this article .
The engine does not crank	Battery. Central junction box (CJB) fuse 201 (5A). Auxiliary junction box (AJB) fuse 121 (30A). Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 22 (20A). Ignition switch. Starter relay. Anti-theft system. Circuitry.	GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
Unusual starter noise	Starter motor. Starter motor mounting. Incorrect starter motor drive engagements.	GO to PINPOINT TEST B .
The starter spins but the engine does not crank	Starter motor.	INSPECT the starter motor mounting and engagement.
The starter spins but the engine does not crank	Broken flywheel/ring gear teeth.	INSPECT the flywheel/ring gear for broke, missing or worn teeth. REPAIR as necessary.
