Data Link Diagnostic Test

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on SCP network (bus circuits No. 914 and 915) and ISO 9141 network (circuit No. 70).
If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED, module communications networks are okay. Return to article of system in question to continue diagnosis.
If NGS tester does not display SYSTEM PASSED, perform the following as applicable:
- If no response from NGS tester, go to TEST M: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - NO POWER TO NGS TESTER under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT70, CKT914 and/or CKT915 = SOME ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST L: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - ISO 9141 NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT914 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST K: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - SCP NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST K: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - SCP NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT914 (bus +), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT915 (bus -), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
