  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to DLC, if not already connected. DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu.
  2. NOTE: Communication network circuits are identified by wire color at DLC. Circuit No. 70 is a Light Blue/White wire at DLC terminal No. 7, circuit No. 914 is a Tan/Orange wire at DLC terminal No. 2 and circuit No. 915 is a Pink/Light Blue wire at DLC terminal No. 10. See Figure. See COMPUTER DATA LINES in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on SCP bus for module communications network (circuits No. 914 and 915) and ISO 9141 communication network (circuit No. 70).
  4. If NGS tester displays CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED, SCP bus network is okay. If NGS tester displays CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, ISO 9141 communication network is operating properly. Return to article that directed you here, or see SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis.
  5. If NGS tester does not display CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED, CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED and/or CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, perform following procedures as applicable:
