In-Vehicle Repair: Valves: Installation

NOTE: Proceed as recommended by the grinding paste manufacturers.

NOTE: Install in the positions they were taken from.

Regrind the valves with grinding paste.
Thoroughly clean all components to remove any traces of abrasive.
Coat valve shaft with lubricant and insert valve.
Install the valve stem seal.
- Cover the groove in the valve stems with the valve stem seal fitting sleeve.
- Slide the valve stem seal onto the valve stem and remove the fitting sleeve.

NOTE: Check that the collets are seated correctly.

Install the valve spring.
- Insert the valve spring and valve spring retainers.
1. Compress the valve spring.
2. Insert the collets.

Repeat the installation steps for the remaining valves.
Install the cylinder head.
