In-Vehicle Repair: Flywheel: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.
NOTE: Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.
  1. Inspect the pilot bearing. Install a new pilot bearing as necessary.
  2. Install the flywheel. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm (50 lb-ft).
    • Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nm (83 lb-ft).

  3. Install the clutch assembly. For additional information, refer to CLUTCH-MTX75 TRANSAXLE .
  4. Install the transmission. For additional information, refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE EXTERNAL CONTROLS-MTX75 TRANSAXLE .
