Selector Lever: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the shifter and the 2 front bolts.
    • Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).

  2. Install the 2 rear shifter bolts.
    • Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).

  3. Connect the wire harness to the shifter.

  4. Connect the electrical connector.

  5. Install the LH plastic retaining clip for the carpet.

  6. Install the RH plastic retaining clip for the carpet.

  7. Push the shift cable into the housing. Make sure that the tab on the shift cable connector is locked in place. Pull up on the cable to make sure it is fully seated.

  8. Connect the selector lever cable end to the selector lever.

  9. Install the center console. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
  10. Check the shift cable adjustment. Make sure that the vehicle starts in PARK and NEUTRAL and the reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If an adjustment is necessary, refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT .
