Test B: Doors Do Not Lock Or Unlock Using Keypad

  1. Unlock driver's door with keypad code obtained from vehicle owner. Ensure keypad and interior lights illuminate with first button press. Press 3/4 button within 5 seconds of unlocking driver's doors with keypad code to unlock all doors. Press 7/8 and 9/0 button to lock all doors, and turn off keypad and interior lights. If system operates as specified, no problem is indicated at this time. If keypad code did not work, go to next step. If keypad illuminates but interior lights do not illuminate when buttons are pressed, repair interior lighting concern. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article. If doors unlock but keypad does not illuminate, go to step  7. If only one keypad button does not seem to function, go to step  5.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester following manufacturer's instructions. Retrieve continuous DTCs. Clear DTCs. Perform RAP self-test. If DTC B1526 is retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to step  4.
  3. Using NGS tester, select RAP PID KEY_PAD. If display shows any buttons active, go to step  11. If display shows no buttons active, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using NGS tester, select RAP PID KEY_CODE. Ensure displayed keycode matches keycode used in step  1. If keycodes match, go to next step. If keycodes do not match, inform vehicle owner of correct keycode to use. Repeat step  1.
  5. With RAP PID KEY_PAD selected, ensure numbers do not display when keypad buttons are not pressed. Press all keypad buttons separately. Display should show only button being pressed. Display will show only odd numbers of each keypad button. If keypad does not operate as specified, go to next step. If keypad operates as specified, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module Black 26-pin connector C336 and keypad Green 8-pin harness connector C516. Measure resistance in circuits between keypad connector and RAP module 26-pin connector C336 as specified. See KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD CIRCUIT CONTINUITY  table. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms in all measurements, replace keypad. Clear DTCs and recheck system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms in any measurement, repair suspect circuit(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs and recheck system.

  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using NGS tester, enter ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select KEYPAD BACK LIGHTING. Turn keypad backlighting ON. If keypad does not illuminate, go to next step. If keypad illuminates, repeat step  5.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module Gray 22-pin harness connector C338. Measure resistance between ground and RAP module harness connector C338 terminal No. 15 (Light Blue wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  9. Disconnect keypad Green 8-pin harness connector C516. Measure resistance of Light Blue wire between RAP module harness connector C338 terminal No. 15 and keypad harness connector C516 terminal No. 7. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue wire. Recheck system operation.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and keypad harness connector C516 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace keypad. Recheck system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between keypad and ground. Ground point is under left side of instrument panel, behind kick panel. Recheck system operation.
  11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RAP module Black 26-pin harness connector C336. Measure resistance between RAP module 22-pin harness connector C338 terminal No. 14 (Black/White wire) and specified RAP module harness connector C336 terminals. See KEYPAD CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Figure . If resistances are less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistances are more than 10 k/ohms, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
  12. Disconnect keypad Green 8-pin harness connector C516. Measure resistance between RAP module harness connector C338 terminal No. 14 (Black/White wire) and specified RAP module harness connector C336 terminals. See KEYPAD CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms in all measurements, replace keypad. Clear DTCs and recheck system operation. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms in any measurement, repair suspect circuit(s). Clear DTCs and recheck system operation.
