Steering Wheel Rotation Sensor: Installation

WARNING: DO NOT install new steering wheel rotation sensor if locking pin has been removed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Before fitting steering wheel rotation sensor, ensure rotor is in correct position. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  1. Ensure alignment indicator is in correct position. Install steering wheel rotation sensor. Ensure retaining clamp screws are not overtightened. Install steering wheel rotation sensor clamp screws. Ensure clamp screws are not overtightened. Apply grease to steering column splines.
  2. WARNING: Ensure breakaway capsules are located in holes in bracket. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  3. Ensure steering column shafts are aligned correctly. Connect steering column halves. Align breakaway capsules. Tighten steering column bolt. DO NOT overtighten bolt. Remove sensor locking pin. To centralize air bag sliding contact, turn air bag counterclockwise until a resistance is felt (approximately 2.5 turns from central position). Turn air bag sliding contact clockwise 2.5 turns until arrow marked on center of sliding contact aligns with raised "V" section at 12 o'clock position on outer cover of sliding contact.
  4. CAUTION: Ensure spacing collar is correctly located. DO NOT assemble if spacing collar is missing.
  5. Install air bag sliding contact. Ensure both retaining tangs lock into position on steering column. Install steering wheel. Install driver air bag module. Install multifunction switches. Install steering column. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
