Test C: Generic Electronic Module Does Not Respond To NGS Tester

NOTE: After making any repair, perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use an ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 20-pin harness connector C201b, located under left side of instrument panel, attached to under side of Central Junction Box (CJB). See Fig 2. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. See Fig 1. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is faulty, repair connector as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Measure resistance between GEM harness connector C201b terminal No. 3 and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire). See Figure and Fig 1 . SeeWIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Light Blue/White wire between DLC and GEM. After repair, test system for normal operation.
