Test A: No Communication With Instrument Cluster Module/Message Center Module

WARNING: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Proper grounding of technician and component is essential to prevent damage.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors C239 (22-pin) and C240 (20-pin). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and specified instrument cluster harness connector terminals. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. See Figure and Figure . If all voltages are 10 volts or more, go to next step. If any voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
    INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION

    Connector Terminal No. Wire Color
    C239 (1) 11 White/Yellow
    C240 (2) 7 Light Blue/Pink
    C240 (2) 8 White/Light Blue
    (1) See Figure .
    (2) See Figure .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 12 (Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C240. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
