Description & Operation
Power outside mirror system consists of left and right mirror heads with integral reversible servomotor assembly and mirror control switch located on driver's door trim panel. Some models are equipped with an electronic dimming interior rear view mirror, turn signals and heating element in outside mirror glass. On automatic dimming mirrors, Reverse input is supplied through Rear Electronic Module (REM). See Figure . When REM receives gearshift position from Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating transmission is in Reverse, automatic dimming functions are cancelled and mirror will return to full bright status. When transmission is not in Reverse, automatic dimming returns to normal operation. If REM does not receive gearshift position information from PCM, a communication DTC will set and automatic dimming will not operate until module communication is restored. Ensure automatic dimming function is enabled before diagnosing.
Optional inside electronic dimming rear view mirror is controlled by 2 light-sensitive photocells. Outside light level is measured by a sensor on backside of mirror housing. A second sensor, located on reflective side of mirror, detects approaching rear lights. Power mirror switches to normal state whenever transmission gearshift selector is placed in Reverse. Heated outside mirrors always operate when rear window defogger is in operation. Turn signals illuminate on mirror glass, when left or right turn signal is in operation.
