Data Link Diagnostic Test
NOTE:
When performing data link diagnostic test, NGS tester may display circuits No. 131 and 132 as circuits No. 914 and 915. NGS tester may also display circuit No. 529 as circuit No. 70. Circuit No. 131 is White/Blue wire connected to DLC terminal No. 2. See Figure. Circuit No. 132 is Black/Blue wire connected to Data Link connector (DLC) terminal No. 10. Circuit No. 529 is Orange wire on Escort or Orange/Blue wire on ZX2 connected to DLC terminal No. 7. Circuit No. 529 connects DLC with all optional modules.
NOTE:
Failure to turn ignition switch ON before running the Data Link Diagnostic Test will cause invalid network test results.
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Connect NGS tester to DLC, if not already connected. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using NGS tester, select vehicle to be tested.
- Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTICS DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on circuits No. 131, 132 and 529.
- If NGS tester does not display SYSTEM PASSED for all circuits, go to next step. If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED for all circuits, module communications network is okay. Return to article that directed you here or see SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis.
- Perform following procedures as applicable:
- If NGS tester displays CKT 70 or 529 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, see TEST E: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - ISO 9141 NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT 131, 132, 914 or 915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, see TEST D: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE DOES NOT RESPOND TO SCAN TOOL under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester display for module in question is NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED or NO RESPONSE ON CKT 131 or 914 (BUS +), or NO RESPONSE ON CKT 132 or 915 (BUS -), see SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis.
