Test C: Single Mirror Inoperative With Switch Logic

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect mirror control switch 8-pin harness connector C218. Test mirror control switch. See MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. Replace switch if necessary. Retest system operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove appropriate door trim panel. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - ESCORT & ZX2 article. Disconnect mirror control switch harness connector and suspect mirror harness connector. Measure resistance of Brown wire between suspect mirror harness connector and mirror control switch harness connector C218terminal No. 6. See Figure. Measure resistance of Brown/Yellow wire between left mirror harness connector and mirror control switch harness connector terminal No. 4, or Black wire between right mirror harness connector and mirror control switch harness connector terminal No. 3. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms for both tests. If resistances are not as specified, replace mirror. See SIDE MIRROR GLASS & MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If resistances are as specified, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
