Test G: Single Power Window Inoperative (Escort)

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate all windows from left front door master window/door lock switch. If all windows open and close properly, verify lock-out switch is not engaged and go to step  3. If all windows do not operate from left front door master window/door lock switch, go to next step.
  2. Perform left front door master window/door lock switch test. See MASTER WINDOW/DOOR LOCK SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If left front door master window/door lock switch is faulty, replace left front door master window/door lock switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If left front door master window/door lock switch is okay and right front window is inoperative, go to next step. If left front door master window/door lock switch is okay and left front window is inoperative, see TEST H: ONE-TOUCH DOWN FEATURE INOPERATIVE (ESCORT)  test.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect left front door master window/door lock switch Black 16-pin harness connector C509, if previously disconnected. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate all passenger windows from each rear window and passenger window switch. If all windows operate, advise customer of lock-out switch. If right front window does not operate, go to next step. If either rear window does not operate, go to step  7.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609. Turn ignition switch to ON position. While operating right front window from left front door master window/door lock switch to UP position, measure voltage between ground and right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609 terminal No. 7 (Green/Black wire). See Figure. While operating right front window from left front door master window/door lock switch to DOWN position, measure voltage between ground and right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609 terminal No. 9 (Light Green/Red wire). If both voltage readings are more than 10 volts, go to next step. If either voltage reading is 10 volts or less, repair open in Green/Black and/or Light Green/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609 terminals No. 6 (White wire) and No. 10 (Red wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609 terminal No. 6 (White wire). Measure resistance between ground and right front window switch 10-pin harness connector C609 terminal No. 10 (Red wire). Resistances should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are not as specified, go to next step. If resistances are as specified, replace right front window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
  6. Perform power window motor test. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If right front power window motor is faulty, replace right front power window motor. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR & REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If right front power window motor is okay, repair circuit(s) as necessary between right front window switch and right front power window motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  7. Perform single switch test. See SINGLE SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If both rear window switches are okay, go to next step. If either rear window switch is faulty, replace rear window switch. Retest system operation.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect appropriate rear window switch 5-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. While operating appropriate rear window from left front door master window/door lock switch to UP position, measure voltage between ground and appropriate rear window switch 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 2 (Blue/White wire). See Fig 1. While operating appropriate rear window from left front door master window/door lock switch to DOWN position, measure voltage between ground and rear window switch 5-pin harness connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow/Green wire). If both voltage readings are more than 10 volts, go to next step. If either voltage reading is 10 volts or less, repair open in Blue/White and/or Yellow/Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  9. Perform power window motor test. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. If rear power window motor is faulty, replace rear power window motor. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR & REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If rear power window motor is okay, repair Red and/or Green wire between rear power window switch and rear power window motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
