Preliminary Checks

Verify the customer's complaint. Before performing any testing, perform visual inspection. Check for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Check battery state of charge. Check cable connections at battery and starter motor. Ensure transmission is fully engaged in Park or Neutral (A/T), or clutch pedal is fully depressed (M/T). Inspect battery junction box MAIN fuse (100-amp). Check for damaged wiring harness and related connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair any fault found before continuing. If fault is not visually evident, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
