Warning Devices

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2005 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The warning chime sounds to alert the driver as a reminder to turn the headlamps off when exiting the vehicle, remove the ignition key when exiting the vehicle, close the doors after starting the vehicle, or to fasten the safety belt after starting the vehicle. The instrument cluster controls the warning chime function. The instrument cluster uses various inputs to determine when to sound the warning chime. The warning chime sounds if the headlamps have been left on with the ignition switch in the OFF position and the driver door is ajar; the key is in the ignition with the ignition switch in the OFF position and the driver door is ajar; a door is ajar while the ignition switch is in the RUN position; or the driver safety belt has not been fastened and the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
