Inspection and Verification: Notes
- Verify the customer concern.
- Verify the stoplamps operate correctly by depressing and releasing the brake pedal with the ignition switch in the OFF position. If the stoplamps do not operate correctly, diagnose and repair as necessary. See SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS. . If the stoplamps operate correctly, proceed to the next step.
- Verify the PRNDL operates correctly on the instrument cluster. If the PRNDL does not operate correctly, REFER to ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article . If the PRNDL operates correctly, proceed to the next step.
- Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:

- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel, and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- Check that the program card is correctly installed.
- Check the connection of the data link connector to the vehicle.
- Check that the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
- Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- SCP or ISO circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for stability assist module, go to Go To PINPOINT TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE STABILITY ASSIST MODULE .
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous DTCs, erase the continuous DTCs and carry out the selftest diagnostics for the stability assist module.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to STABILITY ASSIST MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX to continue diagnostics.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
