Data Link Diagnostic Test

- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on SCP network (bus circuits No. 914 and 915) and ISO 9141 network (circuit No. 70).
- If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED, module communications networks are okay. Return to article of system in question to continue diagnosis.
- If NGS tester does not display SYSTEM PASSED, perform the following as applicable:
- If no response from NGS tester, go to TEST M: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - NO POWER TO NGS TESTER under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT70, CKT914 and/or CKT915 = SOME ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST L: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - ISO 9141 NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT914 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST K: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - SCP NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If NGS tester displays CKT915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST K: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - SCP NETWORK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT914 (bus +), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If module in question is NO RESPONSE ON CKT915 (bus -), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
