In-Vehicle Repair: Camshaft: Installation

- Install the camshaft through the rear of the cylinder head.
- Install the camshaft thrust plate.
- Install a new camshaft oil seal. For additional information, refer to CAMSHAFT SEAL .
- Install a new blanking plug with sealer.
- Attach the air cleaner housing bracket.
- Install the engine rear mounting.
- Lower the engine.
- Remove the special tools.
- Install the timing belt. For additional information, refer to TIMING BELT .
- Install the valve tappets using Hypoid oil.
- Install the valve tappets.
- Install the valve tappet guide plates.
- Install the valve tappet guide retainers.
- Install the rocker arms.
- Install the valve cover.
- Connect the fresh air and positive crankcase ventilation hoses.
- Make sure that the positive crankcase ventilation hose is secured.
- Install the EI coil.
- Connect the electrical connector.
- Install the bolts.
- Install the air cleaner intake pipe.
- Install the air cleaner housing.
- Connect the MAF electrical connector.
- Attach the air cleaner intake pipe.
- Push the air cleaner housing into the rubber bushing.
- Install the battery tray.
- Install the positive and negative cables.
- Tighten the bolts.
- Clip on the wiring harness.
- Connect and attach the electrical connector.
- Install the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Standard finishing operations:
- Check fluid levels and correct if necessary.
NOTE:
Coat the cylinder head cam bore with engine oil prior to camshaft installation.
CAUTION:
Color codes on valve tappets must index with oil feed holes in the cylinder head.
NOTE:
Check that the rocker guides are sitting correctly.
